hi,
i been reading this board for a good while, and surfing the web about leopard gecko, bearded dragon and that other bearded dragon that is smaller..

i will be going to college in jan. and just wanted something that is handleable and something to care for, i always had to have some kind of pet.. good for my mental wellbeing .. if i get a leopard gecko, im not sure how to go about getting the food for one cause i don't drive.. i don't have a car..

my aunt thinks that lizard is not good to have cause you can't handle them .. not like birds, currently i have hand tamed bird..

i like to have something that crawl over me and be sweet at times, and be a pain in the butt at times too.. to add spice to life..

i would love to get a leopard gecko, are they really handleable?

i would love to get a beardie, but that would have to wait til im done with school or something like that ..

my aunt said that i don't really need a pet while im at school , im majoring in pre vet animal science, im hoping to get into vet med.. but if there a chance that i won't be able to get in, im not sure what else i could get into with animal science degree but im sure something will come up as i get to know more about this degree..

i love to deal with animals , my aunt says that i have a gift with animals that other ppl don't .. i mean i charmed a cat in less than 5 mins when my aunt tried for days to charmed the cat and the cat still don't get near her.. my aunt been living in the area for a year in april ..

i am disabled, i am hard of hearing and got cochlear implant.. the implant is great atho i still need to get used to it.. i also got mild bipolar disorder, mild most of the time atho does flare up badly at times .. but taking med for now..

i been looking at all types of colored leopard geckos, some are great looking atho i could never afford them .. so if i get leopard gecko i probably start with normal colored ones since they are the cheapest, til i get more experience with them ..

That is great that you have been reading up on them. They are great pets that are handleable but you don't want to overhandle them. It makes no difference to the leo whether you handle them or not too which is great. The main thing for you to consider is being able to get the food. You could always order online mealies in bulk and maybe occasionally offer crix and others when you can get to the stores. If you decide they're not for you a betta makes a great college pet too but definitely less interesting than leos. Leos are low maintenance as well which is really good. Hope that helps.

hi estarr,

i'm glad to hear you're doing research on them before getting one! leopard geckos are really good, handable pets that are good to consider

if you are unable to drive to get food for your leopard gecko, there are many websites that you can order from and have the food delivered right to your door. i ordered a mealworm breeder starter kit from www.wormman.com, it came with two bins, 250 mealworms, and bedding. because of it, i started breeding my own mealworms and have had successful beetle turnouts. the beetles don't fly and they don't smell - they lay about 500 eggs in a lifetime, which turn into worms a week or so after the beetle dies. this way, i end up saving some cash and won't have to worry about delayed shipping from the postal service. if you can get a baby carrot or a slice of potato for a water source for mealworms, you're set to go! you can do this with both mealworms and crickets.

leopard geckos love to crawl all over you when they're hand tamed and can be a pain in the butt sometimes. you love and worry for the little guy. they just can't be handled too much everyday or else they'll get stressed. i handle mine for an average of 30 minutes every other day. they're nocturnal, so i have to handle mine before i go to bed. first i feed her, then i let her crawl on me

good luck on your search for the perfect pet for you (hopefully a leo!) and good luck in college as well! take care
