my leo is losing weight...

chipstahoy Dec 09, 2003 06:45 PM

and his poop looks greyish brownish now instead of dark dark brown and white stuff. i've had him for a little over a month now, and the first 3 weeks or so he was doing great--ate well, and was a good weight. but now he's lost a ton, and doesn't seem to be interested in crickets or mealworms. i don't have enough money to go to a vet. what do you guys suggest? he's already in his own tank. he has a UTH, a water source, a humid hide, and a dry hide (humid on hot side, dry on cool). i dunno what's wrong...

he hasn't been eating for pry about a week now...

he's on paper towel
the temps are pry 85ish at night and 90 during the day
he has fresh water, but i haven't seen him drink it. i'm busy for most of the day tho, so out of the 20 minutes that i might be able to watch him, he has 23 hours and 40 minutes of time left in the day to drink without me seeing it.

Can you check the actual temps? 88-90 on hot end and 80 on cool end is what you're trying for. That's floor level, not a few inches above the ground.

Try adding a dry hide on the warm side. Many like it there a lot. Also try putting his mealworm dish along the wall, its easier to find there. Same for the water dish.

A lot of leos go off feed when the weather changes for winter. Could be nothing to worry about, but check the temperatures and add that hide to the warm side ... an empty toilet paper roll is fine, doesn't need to be anything fancy.

Good luck!
