Please tell me I did not do something really stupid!

Ok, had a problem with my cricket order this week, it was supposed to come today, found out it has not shipped yet. Anyways, I got home, they finished up the small amount of crix that were left. I had some feeder guppies that I used to feed to my Red Eared Slider (who has since passed). Anyways, I was curious if the dragons would eat the guppies. I put one guppy in each of their tanks, and they both ate them. Is this OK? I wish I had posted about this before I went ahead and did it. I will not do it again, but they seemed to like them. Anyways, my crix order should be here day after tomorrow. Will my guys be OK with just their pellets and greens? They are both juvies, and both pet stores in my area aren't getting their cricket order until the same day I do. I could travel to get them, but what do you guys think? And about the guppies??I hope I have not hurt them!

not a problem. look for little shiney flecks in their poop, just like glitter... cool. greens and pellets are fine for a staple diet. the protein from the pellets can be used to replace crix all together. many people on the list have done awaay with crix.

Just to make sure, I did not hurt them with the guppies? They weren't really big either, they were born maybe 2 months ago (the guppies that is) my dragons are both juvies. One is 15 1/2" and the other is almost 10.

I do not know the exact nutritional content of guppies but I really do not think that one guppy will hurt your dragon. I do not think it is a good idea to continue feeding them guppies. Guppies are much higher in fat than crickets. The pelleted diets are very well balanced and I do not see a problem with feeding these exclusively for a few days. Many breeders are working toward raising cricket free babies and are using the pellets instead.

Thanks guys. No more guppies for Dino and Peanut! I just went upstairs and checked in on Peanut. She was on the bottom of her enclosure, kind of shaking around. I freaked out, but then I remembered it is bed time for her, and she is in shed. I picked her up, she seemed fine, able to move OK and everything. I think she was just trying to get some loose shed skin off. Anyone know anything else about my little faux pas with the guppies, please post. I should know better than to feed them something without checking w/you guys first!

is that in the US, tropical fish carry a bacteria that can be deadly to bearded dragons.. I can't remember the name of it right now, but that's why it is advised not to do it.
