REALLY.. weird question

thecid Dec 09, 2003 07:09 PM

the following question was inspired by my brother who saw me feeding my turtle one day. i was dumping minnows into the tank for the turtle, and my brother said to me, "hey, can you take one of those minnows and put it into the water bowl for the gecko, then get him to notice it and go after it?"

i said NO! however, i really dont know.
so what do you all think about it? can leopard geckos eat fish?
sorry for the insanely stupid question.

since they live in the desert I dont think they are accostumed to seeing many fish. however, I honestly dont know the answer. I think they would possibly choke or egin to drown if they get water in their nostrilsgoing after it. ZIf they were to really dive in. they dont have specialized nostrils like crocodiles ect. good strange question though

I thought about that too, when I fed guppies to my little garter snake. I wondered if my house gecko or bearded dragon would eat them. I never tried it, but I bet a leo, if it were to see a fish flopping around in its food dish, would at least look at it...and smell it...that kind of thing. I bet it would think that it smells like poo, and walk away with its nose turned up!

I've always wondered that too, it isnt a stupid question in my opinion, I dont know the answer either. But, I can say that living in a rocky desert enviroment leos wouldnt see many fish flopping around so I just assume the answer is no. I'd just stick to mealies, crix, supers, ect. Later

The answer is yes, a leopard gecko will eat a fish. When I was in highschool one of my fellow employees used to feed feeder minnows to everything to see if they would eat it, including leopards. In fact, most everything that ate meat would take em. I don't imagine it could be harmful if done really infrequently, but I dont think its very good for them either.

All in all I say don't do it, but they will eat it if its not too big.
