Should I get a frilled?????????

Chameleon996 Dec 09, 2003 09:02 PM

I am moving in about a month and I am going to have alot more room. My dear darling loving husband has told me that I can get another lizard. I seem to lean to the more unusual and interesting types, so right now I am researching frilleds and ackies. I generally do alot of researching before I decide on what to get. My questions is this. Why should I get a frilled instead of an ackie? I would like some suggestions and comments from current keepers of these interesting lizards. :]

Hi,
Both have drawbacks and advantages....

Frillies need a large cage (at least 4 feet wide and high for a pair.) CB animals are 10x stronger than WC, and most are WC so you have to know where you buy them. You have to feed most of them live pray (I give them mice, morio's and roaches)They need UV lighting much more than ackies, so you have to buy a big bulb.
But they can get as tame as a waterdragon or even bearded dragon and I have nver been bitten by one of my frillies. They can really be trusted and usually dont freak out over nothing...

Ackies need less room, and don't need live food all the time. I feed my animals catfood if i am out of crickets and they love it.
They are very active and are fun to watch but I don't really trust them, I have been bitten a dozen times just for holding them. You can't get them out of their cage and let them run around; you'll never find them again.

Personnaly I would go for the frillies if you have the room for them. I currently have 2.5 frillies and 3.1 ackies and prefer the first, but that's just my opinion.

Greetings, Jasper

Okay so that is a vote for frilled. The cage size and lighting is not a problem, my chams need basicly the same things. Question though I build my own cham cages would you suggest a screen cage or plexi for frilleds. My chams have to have the screen and most of my cages are about 4 feet high 3 feet wide and 2 feet deep. Will frilleds eat frozen or does it have to be live? Can you find CB frilleds?

I would use the plexi cage because I have seen frilleds lose toes in the wire mesh. They will also hold the humidity better. As far as frozen, mine will not eat any thing that does not move. I can't even get mine to eat pinkies because the do not move around enough. Hope that helped, Jake.

I make my cages out of painted wood, with a glass window and 1 airstrip in front and one on top.
My frillies also won't eat anything not moving.
Maybe it is possible if you feed them live animals with forceps and after a while change to dead animals. That worked well with my beardies, but I haven't had the time to do it with my frillies yet.
