Hey everyone,
I was wondering, since this is my first time breeding beardies, is it normal for there to be a smelly odor in the incubator?
I figured this probably was normal, but I want to make sure. Thanks for any help.

No, well, mine never had an odor. What's it smell like?
Are the eggs still looking good? What substrate do you have the eggs on?

The eggs didn't realy look that good to begin with. Only two of them were "solid" looking. All the rest were sunken and smaller.
The eggs are on Perlite. I wanted to do the vermiculite, but it wasn't readily available and I didnt want to reposition the eggs after 24 hrs was up. (24 hrs past laying)
You could be smelling the start of some mold. I would check on the eggs and make sure everything seems fine.
On the other hand....... One of my Hovabator's is an old "used" one and it has always had a strong odor to it. I think some smells get into the styrofoam and are trapped in there no matter how well you clean it.

The only time I have ever smelled an odor in my Hovabator was when an egg was going bad. If you are keeping them to moist they can get moldy and soggy and rot. Make sure you do not have to much water in with the substrate you are using. I have used Vermiculite but perfer to use Perelite.
