KevinsReptiles Jun 02, 2003 07:22 PM

I have been intrested for a while to breed crested geckos.I have a few questions of course. Is a 15 gallon tall with screen lid big enough for a breeding pair.Should it be heavily planted. And could you give me some tips for breeding.

Here is my tokay gecko(I also have 14 other reptiles too)

Yes, A 15 tall is good for a breeding pair. The more plants and branches, the more surface area for the geckos. So yes, you can heavily plant the cage, but it is not necessary. You can go with live plants or silk plants. You can go with real branches or wood dowels. You can also increase the surface area by adding vertical pieces of egg carton. Don't use the stuff your crix come in, you can order some from uline.com. I use it in all my rhac enclosures.
good luck

I personally think 15 gallons is a little cramped for two adults year round. They are active animals and will benefit with more space. However if you plant it heavily and they are not in constant sight of each other you could get away with it. I house my adults individually in 15 gallons and pair them up for a month or two for copulation, then separate them again. They do better on their own, not to mention you can monitor everything (food intake, fecals, eggs, etc.)
