hey Tyler...

Hey Tyler, send me your e-mail so I can tell you what I'll be wearing. About the suppliments: does it matter if I use minerall with D3, repcal calcium and repcal reptivite instead of minerall with no D3, repcal calcium with D3 and recal reptivite? Also, I heard brocolli has a chemical in it that is bad for chameleons. About the Wattage: I have a 30"by16"by16" cage and when I had a 40 watt bulb in it I would find my chameleon at the bottom of the ficus clinging on to the pot. I don't know why he was doing this but he was cold when I picked him up. The room temp was a little under 70 degrees so I switched to 100 watts which is a little extreme for the cage size however, he basks 3-5 times a day now, like he should be, and he is warm. In the summer the temp in our house is around 80 degrees and I think a 60 watt will only be neccessary. We live about 15 miles inland and its only hot, 85 degrees, 3 months out of the year and to get an airconditioning unit that costs 5000 dollars is worthless. During the fires in San Diego, the temperature was 99 on monday, 95 on tuesday, 97 on wednesday, 100 on thursday, and 95 on friday. The cedar fire (main big San Diego fire) broke out on Saturday night and the next week the high temps were in the 60's. Go figure.

You could just use MinerAll with D3 (indoor) instead of using the Rep Cal with D3 if that's what you're asking. The only difference in MinerAll O and I is that MinerAll I has D3. I'm not sure about the brocolli thing but I know that brocolli was recommended to me by the people in the tortiose forum a while back for them.... I use it for the crickets and they don't get much of it anyways. I think I remember someone saying that a while back though. Maybe I'll look into it more. I think a 40W bulb in a cage that size is probably not enough. 30 inches is plenty tall and unless you've got a small chameleon, like less than 3 months, I would use at least a 50. I use 50W spot bulbs for my juvies, 4-6 month olds in that same size cage and it works good. With a 100W bulb I would definately check the temps I'm sure they're too high. Even if the room temp is a little low, 100W is hot. If his basking spot is far away he can still climb on the screen right underneath that and get burned. Try a 60W or 75 max in a cage that size no matter what chameleon it is. If you had to you could just raise the light up off the screen a few inches. I would rather use a smaller bulb.
