Questions regarding new leo

xxldmblue13xx Jun 02, 2003 07:36 PM

I have just purchased 4 mo old, kinda small (22 grams), male leo. Would I be able to introduce him to one of my adult females without a problem? Since he wont be able to breed for at least another month can he stay in the same cage as her and get aquainted(and eventually breed)? What are your thoughts or comments about this? Thank you,
Lauren

No, first you should quarantine new animals for at least a month. This way you can be sure that he is healthy and is not carrying any diseases that can spread to your other gecko(s). Second, if he breeds too early he can get a hemipenis which is when the penis stays outside of the body. In some cases it can be treated, but in some cases it leads to losing the penis or either death. If you ask me, the risk is far greater than the added value of putting them in together.

I waited a month and a half quarantining my new adult male and he still gave my female worms when he was introduced. He showed no signs of being unhealthy. It's treated now but I'd wait several months for before introducing special if he's small for his age. She may pick on him or steal all the food they're such pigs . This is just a suggestion every case is diffent good luck.
