Pregnant Beardie

denmaiden Dec 10, 2003 08:03 AM

I have a 3yo beardie whom is pregnant and she will be laying the eggs very soon. Last year this happened and I was not aware nor was I ready. None of the eggs survived.

I cannot afford an incubator and I was told to get a heating pad, Vermiculite, tupperware to put the eggs in. Can someone please tell me the process? I dont want them not surviving this time. I dont even know if they are fertilized.

HELP !!!!

P.S. What do I do with my mail at this time?

Thanks,
Denise

Not trying to sound mean and harsh, but if you can not afford a $35 hovabator, how can you afford to care for and raise up 20 plus babies?

I don't know of any "heat pad" method for incubating.

Sorry

I thought they were much more expensive than that. Where can I order this and how do I tell if they are fertilized?

LLLReptile has some for $38.95 plus shipping. Usually the local feed stores carry them also since they are commonly used for chickens, etc. Just buy the standard hovabator. Usually you can tell if they are fertile within a couple days of being laid. They can change color, develop mold or start to smell if they are bad. Good eggs are a creamy white color and have a good oval shape to them.

I have a section about egglaying etc. at my page:
http://www.morion.com/teo/english/babies/frame-babies.html

Look for "Make your own incubator" and "How to care for the eggs" in the left frameborder.

Good luck with the eggs!
