Malagasy Speckled Hognose (Leioheterodon geayi) Not eating

TrevorMcgill Dec 10, 2003 10:18 AM

I have two Malagasy Speckled Hognoses and they wont eat.
Im getting worried because they have not ate for almost a year now. Ive been force feeding and they have not lost any weight sofar. They look the same way they did when I bought them . What should I do I have tried forzen thawed, live, fresh killed, lizard and toad scented mice and rats. I have left them in a box overnight with the mouse but had no luck. I dont know what to do. I need to get there weight up so I can breed them. Is there any tips or tricks that you been successful with.

All help is appriciated greatly

Thank you

Trevor

have you tried 1 day old live mouse pinkies? I have a female that did the same for me did not eat for almost a year and like yourself I tried everything including a couple of trips to the vet. This year as i changed my light cycles to match winter I figured I would offer the smallest meal I could so I fed her a 1 day old mouse pinkie and she took it! she ate a total of 3 that day for me and has been taking the regular now. My next step is to start enlarging her meals slowly and see if she will still take them. her weight is comming back and she is doing great. I don't know if it will work for you but it did me. Good luck to you from someone that just went through the same.
Greg

Hello, My Malagasy Blond will only eat live fuzzys. He's around 4'-5' long, but seems to like the smaller food. He won't touch anything f/t, or any bigger then a fuzzy. Strange for such a large snake.(large for a hognose) Good luck with yours and don't give up. Billy
