Ovulation question

East TN Reptile Dec 10, 2003 10:41 AM

My 1.1 Colombians have been breeding for 5 wks. The female shed 14 days after their 1st introduction, I know this could mean nothing. I seen this female everyday except for the 9 hrs I'm @ work.
She swelled up bout twicw her size,by no means like a football! Could this have been ovulation or do all females get the "football" swell? She stayed twice her size for 2.5 days. The swelling was bout 1/2 of the lower 1/3rd of her body. Whaddya think.ovulation or not? she's only ate 1 small dead rat (pre killed) in two months. Thanks, Dave

was she cooled before breeding?

did you notice the pre-ovulation twist before this, where she would lay that part of her body down on her side and do some sort of twitching, crawling motion..?

did you see her sides a little bumpy swollen when she went through her supposed pre-ovulation twist?

These are some signs...

hope this helped.. take care - Joe

She laid on her sides & kinda twisty ,like she had kinks for a few days. she laid completly on her side for 3 days. She's getting bigger............just no football size swell. The male has copulayed with her for 5 straight weeks and I did see penatration. Dave
I guess time will tell.......

Just a thought but from my experience the females who show a mild or very minimul ovulation typically turn out to be smaller litters, or slug litters. The larger "football" size ovulation generally warrent a larger litter but as always this isn't gospel just a notation that I've made with my animals. Good Luck Dave..

my females swelled up after the male was done, but i never seen them swell before that, one female shed right after i took the male out and she is now swelled up.i think i'm in the same situation as you,i do know the male bred them because i seen actual copulation several times but it remains to be seen if she took, good luck
