HELP, strange- PIC

justchams Dec 10, 2003 12:49 PM

While my panther was defecating, the red "tissue" in the pic came out, and after feces dropped, this "thing" kept hanging... It might be the anus(??) If anyone knows anything about it, or has had a similar experience, please give me some imput.

thanks

He prolasped, you'll need to take him to a qualified vet ASAP, in the time being make sure it does not dry up, maybe put him in a container with moist paper towels.

This is extremely serious. Call your vet and get an appointment!

Hi-

My males will also pop out there hemipennis when defacating then pop it back in. I have not had a prolapse where the hemipennis wont go back in. How long has the hemipennis been out for? You will want to keep it from drying out by misting it and keeping the humidity high in the cage. If it stays out for more then 24hrs you will need to see a vet ASAP. You my want to call your vet now to make an appoitment and ask if there is anything you can do at home other then keep it wet. Hope this helps!

Thank you guys for you imput. It went back in after about 10 mins. Hey John, how long did it take for your chameleon to reinsert it?(and does it really mater anyway??)

Hi-

It changes from time to time. I have never really kept track of it, but the males will do it more often the younger they are. They will even do it with out defecating just marking their cage. It is cause for concern only if it doesn't go back in. Hope this helps!
