Hi I'm a new BP owner.

RIP-Sparky Jun 02, 2003 08:01 PM

I thought I'd introduce myself and give you some background.
My name is Chris, I'm 12 and a boy scout, soon to be eagle scout!!!
I Just bought my first ball python today from a man in PA who used to be my troop leader. I think my snake is really cool!!
I play clarinet in the band at school and when I get older I plan on raising snakes and dogs. I love all kinds of cars, especially corvettes, and I think it would be neat to meet other people who share my same interests.

Before I go, Iwant to say hi to a couple of friends I met online, Larry Smith and Sally Swanson. They got me interested in ball pythons. I have to be honest, I'm a little scared of them at this point, so I still hold them with gloves. Maybe when I am older, I'll get over that fear.

Thanks for listening and maybe we could meet at a show somewhere. I'm in PA.

Chris

Thats nice that you now have a new hobby.... or just interest in ball pythons. I just bought mine today from a local pet store. I've been wanting one for 5 years but just decided this is the day! If your python is just a baby and not imported I'd say you have nothing to worry about. I really don't know if being bit by a ball python hurts, I've been bitten by plenty of other nonpoisonous snakes and they never hurt me or even feel painful. But I admit until today I would wear gloves when holding my pet tarantula Spike. I've heard both positive-negative stories about being bit by THEM... but today I just decided that Spike just isn't gonna bite if I handle him correctly not I always do. Goodluck with your new ball python though and treat it with respect and be sure to give it plenty of care and the right enviroment to live in!

...when I was 12, I wouldn't go anywhere near snakes...of any kind. My motto was, "It didn't have to hurt me to make me hurt myself." But I have gotten over that fear with the help of my pythons and boas. I think that you will to. Its amazing what they can teach us about ourselves. You will find that there is something empowering about them.

As for breeding snakes and dogs...start learning now. All you can find, read and learn. Who knows, you may be the future host of the next big reptile show on Discovery Channel!

Cheers and good luck,

I couldn't get my first snake until I left home!!!
It was a common boa for $200!!
I used to find snakes under my pop-pops front porch, but I wasn't allowed to keep them.Used to find all kinds of things under that porch.

thanks for bringing back the memories and good luck with your snake!

Mini-Me, we do not knaw on our kitty, we just stroke him and love him.

Im 18, still living at home, my moms terrified of snakes. I mean TERRIFIED. Bought my boa without telling her lol, prepared all his stuff, cage and all in the morning before I left for school, Dad tossed him in when he got there. Came home, mom came home, I told her, and she didn't talk to me for 2 weeks. She was afraid my sister's (pergant with twins now) babies wouldn't be able to stay at the house because of the snake. My sister came over, played with the snake and called my mom silly. My mom has been pretty ok with the snake since, I just can't take him out of my room when shes here. Im about to do it again, getting either a ball, blood, or white lipped(maybe something else if i could ever decide) and just not telling either of my parents this time. She wont go in my room these days, so I can hide him nicely But it looks like ill have to move out before I can start my dream of breeding*cries* I want so many BP morphs!! Ohwell, just thought id add my story lol.

Just how many understories and how much subtext I miss here on a regular basis?

MarkS Jun 03, 2003 12:09 AM

I know I'm missing just as much as you are. Someone should print up programs and scorecards or something. On the other hand, I have to ask myself. "do I really WANT to know?"

Hi friends!

I too just got my first Ball Python! I got my first snake when I was 14 from this really weird little boutique shop thing. It died cause the guy that sold it to me was a ripoff artist! After I bought it I new something was wrong because the guy was really weird.......... he kept saying the same thing OVER and OVER!

My novicee advise to everyones out there, be sure you know who you give money to. There are a lot of crazies out there!

My dream is to meet Mr. Davis of RDR... he is my herro and I want to be just like him when I get older.

Maybe I can get a midis tattoo when I turn 18

bye... Arthur

it's too funny.. I'm about to get my first BP shortly. I'm 24 married with 1 child, and If my father knew I had a snake in the house, he would never come over. So I guess i'll be getting a lock for the bedroom door when hes over to visit. Its funny how snakes bring out the opposites in people. You either really love them or really hate them I think, or in the case of my husband, you learn to live with them wether you like it or not.. LOL

What does your screen name mean? Did you have a dog pass away? If so, I'm sorry to hear that.

Congrats on the snake and the Eagle Scouts!

Congrats on getting your first BP, but even more congrats on getting to the eagle scout! I got close, but I started late and got too old. I think it show that you've got your stuff in order. Welcome to the world of snake ownership. I've always loved them and have several that I am going to breed, but I think they make great pets too. Good luck.
