ATB with pneumonia

PAL Dec 10, 2003 02:23 PM

I purchased an ATB from a local reptile store 3 weeks ago. a week ago I discovered that he had frothy secretions from his mouth. I started him on oral antibiotics and took him to the vet. He changed the antibiotics to injections. The snake seems to be responding. He does not appear congested (and is still alive which is a good sign) and he is a little more active. I hope that he makes it. He any of you had any experience with this? Is this improvement a good sign or are late deaths common in this situation? I have my fingers crossed!

I had a couple with URI or colds in the past and they all made it through with injections of antibiotics. Crank the heat up and let um be, the meds will do the rest. I most recently had my favorite 14' Coastal get a URI and she came through with flying colors. She is breeding now. What meds are you using in the injections? Good luck with your ATb.

If you do not see any improvement with the baytril you may want to consider Naxcil. I have been using it for over a year now on a couple of hard cases that I came across. It is an equine pnuemonia drug but works well in reptiles with no ill side effects. Dosages are the same as Amikacin but given every 48 hours instead of every 72 hours.
