injured snake

I have a san diego gopher and my friend thought that she was a rette snake so he tried to run it over but hit it with a rock and now he has a gash it tore his skin off and the gash is about 1 inch long and my mom and dad wont take him to the vet what should I do

It's hard to tell too much without a picture of the injury but I would worry about infection first. I've had good luck just putting antibiotic ointments on snakes.
