Short Tail with Spiked Tounge?

Jordanm Dec 10, 2003 03:14 PM

I havent been handling my babies much since there sick. But I was checking them out to see how there doing today and one of my girls has a spiked tounge! Its not like one of the forks has been bit off , its like it hasnt seperated at the end(and no its not stuck together). Anyone else seen this? Or is this something that sometimes occurs with unmatured babies and seperates later? Im assuming this is usually something that happens through maturity of the embryio in the egg, but I dunno. Don't worry you wont bee seeing ads for 50% het spiked tounge borneo's by me in a few years, I was just curious about this? And i'm assuming if it doesnt seperate later this will have some effect on her ability to "smell" things, and insight?

When we had to give our blood oral antibiotics I had to hold her head gently and carefully open her mouth with a credit card. During this procedure she would stick her tongue out with both tines of the fork together so it looked like a single spike. Possibly this was a reaction to the gentle pressure on the top and bottom of her head, which may have felt uncomfortable possibly affecting her oesophagus, mouth etc (like whearing a tight shirt with the collar button done up). Is it possible that your snake's illness is causing a similar symptom? Could there be pressure in or around your snake's throat for example?

Aha she has a little drainage in her throat. Maybee thats whats causing it. The real reason is probably that i've been paying wayy too much attention to my snakes. Seems like there starting to feel alot better tho!
