Snake Condo

wingl Jun 02, 2003 08:17 PM

I'm thinking of converting 2 bookcases I have into a snake condo. Taking the back off of one and securing it to the front of the other would make a nice sized enclosure. I would then find some plexiglass and hinges to make a front viewable door. Anyone see a flaw in this idea? I figure I could silcone the joints of all the shelves to make it escape proof and cut some vents for air.
Also, someone told me that the glues used on the veneered particle board could be harmful to the snakes. Anything definitive on this?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Really cool site! Do you own all those BPs? I also have a dog, a corn snake and a ribbon. I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks a bookcase could be x-formed into a condo. Sorry about the name heist. The bookcase you're using looks like much better wood than what I have. I'm just using the standard cheap veneered ones you see in Staples or Office Depot. My concern is the glue used for the case and what happens to it with the higher humidity and heat. I'm looking to get a Red Tail Boa or a Brazilian Rainbow. Something about 9ft at most. Let me know how your bookcase comes along.LOL.

LOL no I don't own those snakes, if you look below them I gave all the credit to NERD, that is where I got all the pics from. I am not worried about you also calling them condos, just thought it was funny. It is all plywood with real wood accents and vanered shelves. I am lining the inside with expanded pvc.
