Cycling JCP's

PKossak Dec 10, 2003 05:54 PM

When I am cycling my JCP's is it okay if there are no specifically heated areas in their cages? I am just currently cycling them by controlling room temperature. 82-85 during the day, and 70-73 at night. Is this alright? Still no seen copulation...

Thanks,

Paul

From what I've been told and have read it should be fine. I'm doing the same for my pair currently but won't be introducing them until I begin warming them up again. I'd say, just be patient. Its just the beginning of the season.

cooling process and then when you bring back the normal temperatures you could introduce the pair for hopefully an egg filled spring. Once you bring them back up to normal temperatures after 4-6 weeks (at least) of cooling you can introduce them for say a week or so, separate for a few days, reintroduce for another week or so etc.... until you are sure the female is gravid (ovulation, basking in the heat light, no more interest in copulation etc..). Hope this is helpful and good luck. Frank Kincade.

Paul,

Honestly, I have never "temperature cycled" any of my carpets and have produced them every year for the past 4 years. I do alter their daylight cycles however.

AS far as breeding goes, I just looked at my records and my females tend to drop in early March. Therefore, I would say be patient, it'll happen.
