Scrub Attack

en Dec 10, 2003 06:25 PM

G'day,
I have no idea who's image this is, and I'm hopefully not breaking any copyright laws, so I'd like to say I apologize in advance if this is someone's image.

But I ran across this image and thought it would be interesting to someone. From what I can tell, it seems to some sort of scrub, most likely a southern scrub that has attached itself to this man's face. Since I don't keep any scrubs, I was wondering what type of damage would be expected from a bite like this?...
Thanks a lot, and again, this isn't my pic, and I apologize if I took this from someone without permission, the website I got it from didn't claim a copyright or responsibility for the picture either....
Thanks,
Ian

Not to bust your bubble, but phenotypically speaking scrub python have large plate like head scales and carpets have small bead like head scales. This is more than likely an Austrilian carpet of the subspecies mcdowelli.

if that guy has a normal sized head then that snake is about 7-8 feet long.yes?100 very sharp teeth in a python mouth.lots of blood vessels near the skin of the face.nerves too!
ouch!
i wonder what he told his co-workers the next day?ha!ha!

herpconsultants2 Dec 11, 2003 10:06 AM

I didn't see him claiming to be an expert anywhere! Get of the guy's back, and post somethimng CONSTRUCTIVE. Your post is enough to make anyone not return here!

Sorry to burst YOUR bubble!

Jaymz Dec 11, 2003 12:52 PM

Jim was being constructive, i for one think his reply was more educational than demeaning. theres already enough hate in the world, lets not have even more because someone was clarifying a species. and i also agree with jim, one look at the head, pattern, scalation, told me it was a carpet, not a scrub, so instead of getting on jims case why not thank him for dispersing a little lesser known information!

"Don't knoe much about Morelia do you...

Not to bust your bubble"

Sorry, but this is NOT constructive! It is condescending! And uncalled for. The rest of the information he gave was great, but I'm sorry, the other stuff was plain rude, and irrelevant.

en Dec 11, 2003 03:02 PM

Damn...I knew that I should've gone with my instincts. I do know a decent amount about Morelia, but didn't think to recognize the smaller beaded scales on the head, I guess I was half-asleep. I had a strong feeling that it was most likely some sort of Carpet instead of a Scrub, but I doubted myself instead. Yeah, I didn't mean to offend anyone by assuming that it was a scrub, sorry.
Being a Carpet then, I guess it would have to be McDowelli, but I kind of thought that the pattern, and strange color seemed somewhat like a Bredli?....But that doesn't seem right either. I guess I don't really know though.
Thanks for the information though.
Ian

hopefully the only one hurt here is the guy with the snake hanging off his head!

jkuroski Dec 16, 2003 11:25 AM

Wasn't my intention...and for what it's worth it is a very odd looking coastal. The latter drama in this post is just old fires still burning...trying to put them out!

were such an expert. aren't you the guy who wraps a pillow case around your scrubs head so you can drag it out of its cage. Hmmm, I wonder why your tracyae is stressed and is a puker???

Yasser Dec 11, 2003 10:28 PM

So where did that kind of comment come from Eli?
What does it do to say something like that?
Whatever the case, Jim is enough of an "expert" to properly ID the snake in the aforementioned pic. So where was he wrong?
I am standing up for no one here...I am just curious why you would say such a hurtful comment about Jim on a public forum?
what has he done to you? I hope you don't feel any of this type of animosity towards me....that would be sad.
With the interests we all have, I am sure we can all get along here and hash a few of these things out.

I did not wrap a pillow case around my snakes head, if your gonna bring up crap at least get your facts straight. I used a towel thrown over it's head so I could get a hold if it behind the neck without taking a bite from a mouth with 100 1/2" teeth. Seems to me I was think of both the snake and myself...blah.

And for your info, my Halm is not stressed and is not a puker anymore, it regurged once when I first got it to feed and was closing it's cage.

I'm not going to be immature and go off on you since I really don't know you. Maybe you should follow my lead. I am sorry if my thread title ruffled some feathers, it wasn't my intention.

On another note, how are those halms doing that Andy has?

As I figured you aren't going to offer up that info, but thanks for your pc reply to make yourself look good. More than likely they are from the source that I set him onto (seeing they won't return my emails about them anymore), and he has big money backing him, so the little helpless hobbyist gets trumped. I would really hate to see something bad happen like one of those imports bringing something in that kills them all and the people that are really into scrubs not have a chance to put other collections together. There's more to reptiles than money and the bragging rights to be the first to produce a species. Share the wealth...

P.S. Kevin, I really hate to post this kind of thing here not knowing you at all. I have no interest in making a bad name for you or your business. I have seen your stock and it is top notch. What I do have a problem with is some of your less than friendly staff that makes the sound of 'NERD' hurtful to my ears. This is supposed to be about the hobby, the animals, and sharing information. Have we all lost sight of our roots?
-----
Jim Kuroski

bloodpythons Dec 16, 2003 10:30 AM

First off, this isn't about Kevin at all, so please don't go out of your way to say nice things to him after WE BOTH KNOW how you've talked crap about our husbandry on your own forum. Frankly, he has nothing to say to you, which is why I'm responding to this.

Since when has our "staff" been less than friendly to you, Jim? Andy and I are the only two staff members of NERD you've ever even spoken to! When you go and post asinine crap like this, what makes you think we want to go out of our way to contact you, especially when we have lots of stuff to do in the course of a day?

Nobody here has lost site of their roots, that's for sure. We spend every single day enjoying our animals, and THAT'S what this is all about!!!

I don't get you Jim. Not one bit.

jkuroski Dec 16, 2003 11:17 AM

I questioned your husbandry from two pictures I saw that's it...and you set me straight didn't you. On my own forum in front of all my piers as I deserved. I think that ordeal has put a bad taste in both our mouths.

It seems apparent to me that we both have the he/she thinks they are a know it all approach to this. I guess I shouldn't judge people, cause it's always going to come back on me.

"Nobody here has lost site of their roots, that's for sure. We spend every single day enjoying our animals, and THAT'S what this is all about!!!"

Yes that is what it is about, but letting other share in that joy is important too.

"I don't get you Jim. Not one bit."

Few people do...I am an odd character for sure. I have genuine intentions, but have problems with controlling my emotions...sorry guess a trip to the vet; I mean the doc is in order.

You just as easily could have e-mailed ME, but did you? No! So don't act like I'm the bad guy here when you made no effort, either.

Thanks!

Ok now hug and say your sorry...

I have no personal affiliation with either of you, and no intrest in the subject matter really. However, I do believe Kara had a very good right to post a responce instead of e-mail. If you want to start arguements and name calling please leave it off the message board and email. There are buisnesses and good reptutations to hold up as well tho. So I believe she had a perfect right to respond on the public message board which you started a confrontation on. Jim if you have a problem with this post please...send me an email!

jkuroski Dec 16, 2003 09:50 PM

Well you are getting some funds from somewhere...or don't have any other obligation that consume it. I do believe I just read a post about you dropping better than a grand on geckos. I made that comment based on Kara's "christmas bonus" comment. I thought you may be going in on them together or something.

Forgive me if I am wrong, and please realize I am trying to put this to rest.

bloodpythons Dec 17, 2003 09:28 AM

He's the only person I know that when he has his arm bitten & wrapped by an 11' retic, figures it's a good time to clean the animal's enclosure since the snake is already distracted. To say he has balls is the understatement of the year. He also "gets" his snakes on an elemental level - just really seems to come to terms with them and understand them in a way few people do - watching him work is awesome.

Not a single bad thing I can say about the kid...except that he didn't know what couscous was when he first moved in.

I know what a kuskus is but not couscous (steamed wheat centers)?
-----
Jim Kuroski

bloodpythons Dec 17, 2003 12:15 PM

Couscous is basically the separated grain of the wheat plant, but think of it as essentially really tiny, really yummy pasta that carries flavor well & adds awesome texture to just about anything. Think of it as kind of a rice substitute - i.e. you can serve almost anything over it that you'd typically serve over rice, and it's excellent either hot or cold.

There's a very easy, instant/5-minute version in a variety of flavors that you can find in the "rice" section of almost any grocery store. I'd HIGHLY recommend it if you're looking for something to change up a few recipes. Or e-mail me & I'll send you some recipes that have been a big hit at our place.

I do a LOT of cooking, so I'm full of "useless culinary trivia."

Just so you know for future reference, all pictures have a copyright. The person who took the picture or hold the negatives has the copyright to the picture. Granted most people who put pictures on the internet now put some sort of visible copyright on them but technically they don't have to.

en Dec 11, 2003 02:54 PM

yeah, I kind assumed that, but I had no way of getting in contact with, or even finding who the photo belonged to.
Thanks though
