Hi,
When I set up my tank (10 gal), I put a rectangular light fixture in the corner and needed to make an 'L' shaped lid for it. I went to Home Depot and bought 1/4" baseboard trim. You can get it in a fancy design if you want. I chose oak because it was on sale at the time. ($5 canadian for a 12 foot length)
Cut it down (you only need a small saw for this stuff) and fit the pieces. Once you get a frame shape, attach it all together with some sort of glue. I used hot glue, as it was the easiest to work with and if I didn't like the fit, I could heat up the joint (melting the glue) and try again. You might want to put a couple pieces across it for extra strength and to give you a handle to lift it up with.
Once you have the wood frame all glue together and solid, buy some aluminum screen from Home Depot ($6 canadian).
Glue the screen to the bottom of the wood frame and trim it to fit.
This should give you a nice, custom lid for around $10 (canadian money), which is quite a bit cheaper than buying a custom lid online. You can also paint it or stain it to whatever colour you want if natural wood trim isn't to your liking. Or you can buy pre-coloured trim.
Hope this helps.
>>I was given a 40 or 50 gallon hexagonal tank but I don't have a top for it. I used to use a company that would make custom screens to fit any kind of aquarium but they went out of buisiness. Does anyone know of any componies that will make a screen to for me.
