i've seen a lot of different crestie prices online... pretty much ranging from $50 (plus S&H) to $125 (plus S&H). i believe it's mostly because of age, color morph, and if they have a tail. i found sub-adults for $29.99 (plus S&H), but they won't have a tail. also, how ever much baby food crix will cost you in your area per month... you might want to look at that... i'm just estimating about $15 - $20/month. a good substrate would be the bed-a-beast or something similar so it'll help keep the humidity up. it might be hard to keep up humidity if you're on paper towels - some people can pull it off, but i'd think it'd be hard.

I've seen them go for anywhere from $25 (wholesale for very plain ones) to $350 for a nicely patterned adult.
Substrate wise, some type of paper is going to be your best bet for a number of reasons. Newspaper, Disposable Cage Liners, or paper towels work great. The reason I don't like mulch or wood chips is because they can accidentally get it in their mouths and choke on it. The reason I don't like soil is because it's extremely hard to find eggs once they lay them.
