I posted a while ago and got no reply..................

here is the post again, I hope someone can help me.

My male leo has not been eating for about 2 months, but 2 weeks ago I found a way to get him to eat, but its sorta messy. I have to cut the head off of the mealie, squeeze the guts out, and then let him lick them up. Has anione else ever had a leo that would only eat this way? Is this nutritional enough without him eating the outside of it? Any response would be greatly appreciated.

and for the good news part of it:
I got 2 new baby leos on Saturday! they are normals, but too young to sex. they are eating great, and seem like they will look nice when they grow up. Just wanted to share the good news!

Any replies to the above subject would be really appreciated, as my male is becoming EXTREMELY THIN, less than an inch wide.

can you describe the enclosure he's in?
substrate, temps etc...

have you had a fecal test done? It sounds like theres something causing him not to eat rather than him just being picky.
Sometimes my leos won't eat for a few days, but once they get hungry they'll pig out.

he is in a 10 gallon, paper towell substrate, he has an UTH, a log to hide under, a tree (plastic bonzai you may see at petsmart)to hide in, a humid hide with peat moss, a food disht (has calcium in it, but he wouldn't eat without it either), and a water bowl.

If hes getting real thin, I'd get him to a vet. It might be some sort of parasite thats making him lose weight. As for the eating thing, the outside of a mealworm is mostly chitin I think, so I dont think it adds anything nutritionally really. Good luck with him, hope he gets better soon.

Hi,

Definately get him to a vet!!!! If you can get a poop sample, make sure you do that too. He definately sounds sick, and may have parasites or something else, since he wont eat mealworms on his own. and if he is losing weight, that is definately a sign of being sick. and make sure you keep him far away from your new babies, in case whatever he has is contageous. You dont want your new little ones getting sick too. Good luck and keep us posted!

Oh, and make sure you find a good herp vet, not just any dog and cat vet. You want someone who is trained to deal with reptiles. You can go to www.herpvetconnection.com and hopefully find one in your area.
