Orange head roaches are very prolific insects and they are a good food source. I started with 60 roaches and now have over 3 million of them (at the very least). All their sizes are consumed by my chameleons from the babies to the adults. They do have a tougher exoskeleton than other feeder insects but not as tough as a Madagascar Hissing Roach. Lobster roaches are another excellent roach but they can climb almost any surface. Orange Heads can't climb glass or plastic so housing them is very easy. Give them a try in small amounts and see if your chameleons take to them. If they do, then buy a few more and get a breeding colony going.
the orange heads are used as the main staple of their diet? how much harder is the roaches exoskeleton than, say crickets, and doesn't the regular use of a feeder with a harder exoskeleton cause digestive problems or at least potential problems? i feed my chameleons crickets as theirstaple and one day a week i use superworms, mealworms or waxworms. just to change things up a bit for them.

I started with just 10 orange-headeds from Mulberry farms and it took quite a while to build up the colony, but I did it.
If you can afford it, I would start with 50-100, since the colony will get started much faster.
I think that they are a great feeder, I don't use them as a staple, but my chams probably get them 2-3 times/week.
