Fire-Bellied Toad Sick??? Please Help

z00mxflix Dec 10, 2003 09:49 PM

About a week ago i bought two fire-bellied toads and theyve been doing fine in a ten gallon tank so far...ive treated the water with dechlorinizing solution and ive set up a terrarium with half water and half lad (gravel, then moss substrate with a little cave..) i've noticed today that one seems perfeclty fine and has his/her's bright green coat with black spots while the other one's coat has become a much darker green coat...could it be because he is shedding? or is he sick? please reply back asap so that i may quarrantine him if he is sick...Thank you!

I have 2 myself. One stays bright green all the time, and the other "darkened" after i clean their tank. No one seems to know, or have a definate answer to why only some change color. My guess is that that one might be stressed, for whatever reason. Seems that way with mine. really hasen't happened to much anymore, they might be used to me. I've had mine about 3 months.

I have 4 of them and they seem to rotate who is going to be dark this week. I have asked vets and other owners and again there seems to be no real answer as to why they do this. Mine do after a water change or if it gets too chilly. They do it for days or just a couple of hours. They should be just fine.
