Can the public obtain antivenom. Do any of you out there keep antivenom? If I am correct that the general public can not obtain antivenom, Why? I know you cann't easily self administer but it would be nice to have a few vials to take to the hospital to hold someone over till they can obtain more. I know for a fact most hospitals even in major cities do not have antivenom for non nativeexotic spieces. I have always figured be careful and never get bit but [bleep] happens to the best of us. I would gladly spend hundreds of dollars if it was available.

Private citizens CAN obtain AV, but you need a doctor to sign off on the paperwork. I'm sure someone here can direct you as to the forms you need.

As Meretseger posted, yes you can obtain your own Serum. Rather than re-type the procedure here, I suggest you checkout the Southeast Hot Herp Society Website amd go to File Downloads. There are several information files there on the procedures for obtaining it. You'll need to contact the A/V manufacturer for some information to submit with the FDA application, and you'll need to contact your personal physician and inform him/her of what you're doing. You'll also need their curriculum vitae(professional resume) to submit to the FDA.
