snagltooth Dec 10, 2003 10:37 PM

i recently acquired a gravid female and 3 days ago she laid a clutch of 9 eggs. i read froggieb' caresheet and sort of have an idea of how to set up the incubator but could somebody provide a more detailed instructions for setting up and incubator. Also what should i use to keep the eggs warm. i have them in a egg container in vermiculite inside of a styrofoam container with a cup of water in the bottom like froogieb reccommends but i dont know how to keep the temp between the right ranges

From my experience, which is pretty extensive, you can just about place the box anywhere and do OK as long as the temps don't exceed 75°F. I keep mine in a corner of the family room in our basement. It is usually pretty cool down there except for when we have a fire going. The temps there have done pretty well for me. In our last house I kept them in the laundry room as that was a new house and the temps were pretty even throughout. In the laundry room it was just enough cooler to maintain 69-72°F.

What I do is place a thermometer with hi/low and memory reading so I can check the temperature range. If it is too warm or too cool I move it until I find a suitable spot.

I do like to have a temp varient so if it isn't happening on its own I lift the lid a bit at night or whenever your temps may be cooler.

Hope this helps
