hibernation

I recently purchased 2 b/w argentine tegus (1.1)-I thought i had properly researched them prior to bringing them home . I have several reptiles that are fairly easy to understand .These tegus have me asking myself questions and on the computer often.Let me get you up to date--got both approx. 1 month ago . they are approx 3 months old . male and female very healthy. They immediately buried themselves deep in cypress mulch. The female has not surfaced since (checked on her 2 weeks ago-- all seems o.k.)hibernation ?The male is totally different--comes up every few days walks around (i originally had a normal set up with basking side and cooler side, which i shut down after they were out of sight for a few weeks --i hope was the right thing to do--so when he surfaces i turn on heat light which he basks under for about an hour (not interested in food ) then disappears under mulch again --brumation ? I don't really understand why the 2 that are in the same habitat /environment act so different? also the temps in the hotzone were at about 110-115 (why the immediate hybernation/brumation ? -was something overlooked? )

where did you get them from? if it was from Agama International, then they had been in hibernation for a few months. keep heat on for alteast 12hrs. make it 120-130 on the hot SPOT. make sure they can get somewhere where it is no higher than 75. if they have already been hibernating then they will likely just sleep until Feb. or around there.

i was just saying with a spot in the cage that high in temperature there also needs to be somewhere in the cage they can go to cool off so there is no chance of overheating.

hey Matthew------right now in hot zone it's 115 (male just ate his first f/t rat pups--he's basking)--the shade zone is 70--i have my female in 100% hibernation--she's buried deep--so i have male totally active and female sleepin' in same tank-so far so good-BRIAN
