Additional Heating For Winter Temps - Question

jwr0201 Dec 10, 2003 10:46 PM

I'd like to know what is recommended as an additional heating source for my geckos. Through the warmer months, I have a Cobra UTH that gets the harm end to a consistant 90 deg. during the day and night temp is around 75-80. Now that winter is here (in Florida), the UTH heats the warm end to 80 degrees days and nights get to 65 without the heater. I have been using the UTH during the night to keep my three leos warm enough. My question is what additional heating source is recommended, if any. Also, should I use the UTH 24-7? I'm concerned that temps here haven't hit bottom yet and are likely to get a bit colder. Please give opinions here. Thx - RR

I use my UTH's 24/7. Up here (Canada) it gets cold, really cold in the winter. Today wasn't bad but i tell ya, a few days ago it was so cold i didn't want to move away from the fire place. With the temps dropping so much even with the UTH i use lighting to help heat things up. I still have to put all of them up but i use day lights for a 12 hour 7-7 cycle and i'll be getting a strip of blue lights for a night light. Personally i think its great that the ground temps are kept warm with the UTH but i know that if the air temps are chilled then its just as cold to the geckos as it is for me. I try to maintain a constant room temperature of around 75 degrees which helps too
