I'm switching from repticarpet to paper towls. How many layers should i use? Should i use a few extra layers over the UTH? I left it on 24/7 when i had the carpet in. Should i still leave it on all the time?
Thanks alot for the help.

4 on the heat, 2 on all other parts of the cage. That is what most of us are doing. But then again it always depends how thick your paper towels actually are
Because I don't want to burn him. any brands??? what do u use?? thanks a bunch

You have a few options.
1) Layer whatever thickness you want until the temp is right.
2) Buy a thermostat and use that to control the temps, while laying down a layer or two
3) If it's too hot with only paper towels, and you don't want to invest in a thermostat, I use a piece of corrugated cardboard that's cut to fit the size of the tank (10gal). You can just layer something thick like cardboard to get the right temps if paper towel layers won't do it. Cardboard has the added benefit of being free (if you go to the grocery store) and your leo can't get under it if it's cut to fit. This will keep it from burning itself on the glass, if that's an issue.
If you wrap the paper towels around it before putting it in your tank, mealies/crickets/etc. can't get under it either if you've cut it to fit tightly. And clean up is easy. Just lift the whole thing out, poop and all.
Hope I helped...

For the last two months i've probly only seen my gecko out of her hide for a grand total of 10 minutes. I switched from carpet to paper towels. When i put her back in, with same exact setup, she went in her hide for like 5 minutes. For the last two hours she's been out wondering around. I cant get her to go back in there. Maybe she was afraid of the substrate, cause i had a paper towel inside the hide. Maybe thats why she stayed in there.
Sheesh!! I dont know what happened. I've had her for three months and i've never seen her do the things she's doing tonight. Climbing on everything, climbing on glass, crawling onto my hand, playing with her toilet paper roll, leaping off the top of her hide. I didnt think that substrate made that much different. Sorry if this doesnt seem that exciting to anybody else but this is the first time i've seen her move.
