Frilled Diet?

lazandlouie Dec 11, 2003 12:20 AM

I have been feeding my young frilled crickets and wax worms i believe, i forgot what they are called, but i know they're ok for frilleds. Anyways I was wondering what everyone thought is a good diet for frills, young ones that is. And is dusting with the vitamin stuff neccessary, bc i've had my frill for about a month and havent done so yet, i think i should be getting some as soon as someone helps me out: whats a good brand, whats the name of stuff i should buy, and how do you dust crickets? Sorry i asked so many questions, yall are great. Thanks everyone!!

You should be feeding mostly crickets (90% ). Wax worms are very high in fat so they should be used as a treat. Superworms are good for a variety in older frilleds.

YES you should DEFINITELY have some calcium and multi-vitamins to dust the food with. If you only want to buy one vitamin/calcium powder, I'd recommmend miner-all... OR a combination of rep-cal calcium w/D3 & rep-cal herptivite is another option... but, yes they do need those vitamins/calcium in order to remain healthy. The vitamins/calcium are not very expensive considering how long they last.

Hi,

Pet stores usually have W.C. animals, so if they are the chance of them being related is very slim.
You should buy the vitamins as soon as possible, because if you don't your frilled will die in a couple of months. Insects have no calcium and no vit. D in them. The best thing to do is buy a good UV-bulb( mercury-vapor 100/160 W) and use a vitamin calcium powder on your crickets 4x a week and use a pure calcium supplement 3x a week (calciumcarbonate). Most vitamin powders have too much vit.D compared to the calcium, so you have to use the pure calcium 3x instead of the vitamins. I put the crickets in a small, thin plastic bag with some powder(small teaspoon) and shake the bag.

If you ever want to breed these animals you should try to learn a lot about this (feeding, supplementing, age, parasites, etc..) A lot of females die of egg binding if you don't feed them properly.

Good luck, Jasper

Ok, i got the stuff. I bought some rep-cal calcium, and some rep-cal herptivite, and about 25-30 crickets for the next 3 days for my few month old frill. I want to know how to do this. I know how to put the crickets in the bag and shake it, but how much of what do i put in the bags, do i put all 30 crickets at once or just do half or what, and how often, everyday? I really appreciate everyones help. Thanks!!
