Rep-Cal and Eco-Therm

JoeyP Dec 11, 2003 06:31 AM

If I put both Rep-Cal and Eco-Therm in my dragon's salad, should I still be using supplements. I've still been using calcium, and a multivitamin once a week. I was just thinking that with both repcal and ecotherm I might already have all my bases covered and I won't need to buy more supplememnts.

That really depends on if your dragons are eating enough of the Rep cal and the ectotherm food. I would still use the other suppliments once a week just to be sure.

Well I plan to be getting some 6-8 week old juveniles in spring. Back in the days Rep-cal was what I used (11 yrs ago). Now what should I be using on my beardies at this point?

Mattman Dec 11, 2003 07:51 AM

Oh no rep-cal has a pellet food for beardies, and that's what this post was pertaining too. The rep-cal with d3 and herptivite are still one of the most widely used calcium powders, and multivitamin powders. Another good brand is Sticky Tongues Miner-all I. I pretty much switch back and forth between those two.

Oops. LOL. Ok well at least I am learning. This place is a wealth of info. I am in the process of adding grooves to my 2X4s to accomodate the rails on the Vision Cages to dissipate the heat build up i anticipate from the lamps. Matt do you know of a good place to get wood or whatever for climbing (just something for them to bask on)?

Mattman Dec 11, 2003 09:06 AM

Hmm you know I never bought the wood for basking online. I always went to the reptile shows for things like that cause of the price for shipping heavy pieces. Plus I wanted to pick certain pieces that would fit together or balance properly and look nice for them to bask on. At the shows around here a place named twin oaks comes. They sell the dollar a gallon tanks and lots of wood pieces for them. They do have a website www.glasscages.com, but they do not have pictures of the pieces. Maybe you can start a post up above and someone can give a few different places to check out.

under pets, and then reptile supplies on e-bay people often sell driftwood, and stuff like that. They take pictures of the exact pieces for sale.

Just be careful with eBay, I bought some driftwood there once, and it turned out to be cedar (poisonous fumes to reptiles), so make sure you know what kind of wood it is.

Maybe you would benefit from the classy lizard hammocks? Sounds like everyone else is really happy with them. also the drift wood is harder to clean in my opinion. I use the ceramic type climbing fixtures right now and they are really easy to disinfect and clean. You can get really large al the way down to samll stuff for 10 gallons. They are super easy to clean, just throw em in the dishwasher but they are a little more expensive than driftwood. I would recomend them over drift wood ANY day though. You can pick them up at PetsMart or Petco... you know. Not sure about online places maybe LLLreptile though they tend to be kinda pricey. There are several other places in the dealers list of Kingsnake under supplies. Hope this helps!
Would love to see a pic of how you rigged up the visions so you could stack them if you get a chance!
Later,
Robert Wood
