Wild sighting in California?

LailaM Jun 02, 2003 09:05 PM

My neighbor, after seeing my yearling Amel "Sally Mae", thinks he saw a wild corn in our field in the backyard. We live in the Sierra Foothills, in California. Is this even remotely possible? Could someone have let their captive cornsnake go, and Mark could have seen it? From what I've looked at as far as their respective territories go, don't they live in, like, Tennessee and other states close by? Anyway, if there is one out there, is there any possibility that I could mate mine to the "wild" one, if it's a male? I mean, I wouldn't even introduce them if it wasn't a healthy, non-parasitic specimen. If it is "just a rat snake", is it possible for them to mate, also? Just curious. I'm perfectly happy to have my one, healthy, happy little girl, but once he told me that he thought he'd seen a cornsnake in the backyard, I kind of got crazy thoughts. Oh well. Thanks in advance!

It may have been another species, like a glossy snake

or a gopher snake

or some other blotched snake which occurs in CA.

There's still the possibility that it's an escaped corn...I found a blood python (run over) not to far from where I live in FL.
