My three new young (10-12 week old) leos are finally eating. I tried hand feeding and got one to strike the mealie out of irritation at me. After she ate the worm, she stalked my finger from a few inches away and nipped at me! Later that night, she walked over and crawled right into the palm of my hand - go figure. Tonight, I removed the hides and dropped dusted mealies in fromt of them. Two of the new gex ate about a dozen mealies each. My third and slightly smaller leo did eat, but not with nearly the interest as the other two. She only ate three mealies - one of these mealies was fairly big - large medium. She chomped it down and then seemed to chew for about 30 seconds. She didn't eat any more after that. A little later she walked over into my hand and sat there just sniffing. Very quiet and calm. I think she is my favorite. She is a nice bright rainbow with pinks, salmon, orange, yellow and dark brown hints. The combination of removinig the hides and using tweezers to drop the mealies in front of the leos worked well, but it sure does take time! I'm sure that the movement of the prey insects triggers the eating instinct - very cool to watch. Will they ever figure out that the big tanned guy that opens the screen top is not their personal servent and eat on their own? Also...will the quiet one come around and eat like the other two piglets? I feel that things are progressing pretty well with them being in their new home for only two days thus far! RR
