WTF yelling at kids

croakys Dec 11, 2003 10:56 AM

Yesterday something kinda cool happened. My kids (2,4&6Y.O.)were gettin kinda rowdy making noise and carring on as kids do, when out of the blue the WTF starting calling, LOUD!!. the kids quieted down to listen. It was about 4:00pm. I told the kids that the frog was yelling at them to be quiet because he was trying to sleep.
P.S. The frog was more effective than I was

Wonderfull isn't it - There have been many ocasions for me were I'll open the lid to the Forgs home only to be told to get lost by Edith Treefrog - a few sharp craoks and a dirty look.

It allways makes me wonder how much intelligence can you squish into such a small skull.

Also they like Tom Waits and somba music - both of which will call them into song.

well mel you may have the change Ediths name. if the frog is croaking it is a boy. does its throat blow up?if not its just a distress call and she is telling you to get lost. but if hes he and hes croaking, hes a happy bugger!

No Edi is definately a girl she has eggs visable through her skin at this very time. Also once you've had an individual through a few seasons - you notice the nuptual pads or eggs - which are your best indicators.

Not saying we don't get it wrong with the names though - Only Tori and Edith are confirmed Female - but we suspect Jeff may be too. But we definately know that Jayne, Jenny, Barry, and Priss are boys.

- All Whites croak - infact they can make 3 distinct calls - the 'get lost' croak the ' come over here baby' croak and lastly one you never want to hear which is the ' I'm freaking out croak' which is more of a schriek. I've only invoked it once - early on with Jeffery Frogbottom - I was trying to feed him in isolation as he was stressing with the other frogs when he started making an incraedibly loud screaching noise - more like a bird than a frog.

The only croak exclusive to males is the ' come over here baby' croak - in this one the individual may spend many loud minutes and really balloon up with convulsions as the air is moved back and forth throughout thier lenght - That's a BOY... But if a frog climbs onto or over another and theirs and objection you will get the 'get lost' croak which is more of a subdued ret, ret, ret without much fanfare - either sex will do this.

I've had mine for over a year and neither one will make a peep...

I thought I had a boy and a girl when I got them. They were sold as an adult pair, one is about 1/3 bigger than the other and I thought that was the female and the other was a male.

But still not a sound.

Try playing recorded croaking to them - If you have trouble getting a recording (unlikely but possible) let me know and I'll send you a couple of wavs.

I used to makeup recordings to get them in the mood - eventually stoped using them as when the rain machine starts up the guys follow without needing prompting.

But when they were younger - the recordings were the best way of getting them to 'light up'

You may indeed have 2 females (how lucky) - or they may simply be juvenile.
