Need Help with Grand Cayman frog I.D.

Brad Alexander Dec 11, 2003 11:07 AM

I found this little guy while visiting Grand Cayman last week. I only wish I had taken the time to get some better pictures. I have done some research on the net but I have come up empty handed. I did find one informitive site but after researching the few frogs it said existed on the Cayman Islands I still did not find anything that resembled the one I photographed. I will leave a link below to the site that has a species list of the Cayman Islands.

Thanks for your help,

Brad

I think it might be Eleutherodactylus planirostris (Green House Frog). After viewing some more pictures of this species I am fairly sure that this is it.

Any input is more then welcome.

Thanks,

Brad

I think you are right. We have Green House Frogs all over the place here in FL and that one looks exactly like it!!

Unfortunately, they do not do well in captivity, so you may want to skip keeping this species.

They are darling little frogs though! But I would just enjoy them in their natual habitat.

I left it where I found it. I don't collect much of anything these days but I greatly enjoy photographing them. Thanks for the information.

Take care,

Brad

I think it would be probably be illegal to take them from Caymans anyway. Andy
