It doesn't do bad as far as heat conducting, but I don't like it for leopard geckos. It dries out pretty quickly and then it's fibrous, dusty and chunky all at the same time, which is pretty bad for leos. I used it for fattails, because I could mist every day, but leos need a drier environment. I use bed-a-beast for leos hideboxes, though, and it works great.

It does conduct heat well, but I've only used it in hides. I have heard rumors about leos becoming impacted from it so if you do decide to use it as a substrate you'll have to watch your leo carefully. I've never had any of my leos get impacted, I only have it in their hides, however, where I try to keep it moist and compacted. If you haven't dealt with it before, it is very dusty when dry so you might want to consider an alternative.

I currently have all my leos on rabbit pellets. I've used this substrate for 6 years now and never encountered a problem. I purchase my pellets in 50lb bags from a feed store for under $10. The pellets will mold if wetted, however, so it is important to be diligent about cleaning up things like spilled water dishes.
