How many times do you change the water in a false bottom tank?

addam4208283 Dec 11, 2003 06:07 PM

I am interested in finding out how many times a year you have to change the water in a false bottom tank. I have a water fall in the tank that pours the water from the upper left hand corner of the tank into a shallow pool with natural fish tank gravel.
thanks in advance.

I change my water in my imitator tank about 1 time a month, and in my azureus tank about every other month. The azureus tank stays cleaner.

I change mine about once every 2 months. However, I do add some water every now and again, and it holds about 7 gallons. Additionally, the recirculating pump and the plant roots keep things very clean.

I have a 58 gallon tank with a waterfall and about a 10 gallon pool in it. I change the water about every 6-7 months and have never had ANY problems with it. Actually about 5 or 6 weeks back I began placing my tads from my G&B Auratus in the water feature to see how they would develop, and all are doing great. I don't feed or anything they just eat the deceying plants and the waterfall keeps the water from stagnating. I agree with Homer about the plants keeping the water clean. Plants are a natural filter for the water. I will let you know how the tads turn out if anyone is interested. This is a very early pic of the tank.
