New salvator - pics

BillyBoy Dec 11, 2003 06:55 PM

Picked this little one up the day after Thanksgiving as a cagemate for my other little Water. They can grow up knowing what it's like to interact with their own kind. It's around 14" and super calm and confident. Chowing down on superworms, crix, fortified ground turkey, fortified cooked ground chicken and pinkies. You can see by the pics, they really like the dirt! Billy

This one was taken with the flash and really changes the whole complexion of the shot. Gives a much better idea of just how dirty this happy little varanid is! Enjoy - I know I am! Billy

Nice, I was at underground today and almost picked up a couple. The rudis and melinus were tempting as well. What are you using for dirt? It seems to really enjoy it. Have fun!

That's exactly where I got this one. Got my other one from Ben's shop. The dirt I'm using is just plain ol South Florida dirt - nice mix of dark soil, red clay and sand that I dug up across the street from my house. I hose it down about twice a week or whenever the top starts to dry out. They love digging in it. Didn't know Waters would dig and burrow so much! Where do you live anyway? We must be neighbors! Haha, you probably got them from the same group I was looking at.They were very nice. Im gonna be in Boca again next week , maybe I'll pick one up or two. Salvators are very attractive. So your just using regular s. florida dirt? I had to seperate one of my crosses and used dirt digged from my yard and its working almost as good as the one I mixed w compost and peat. Im in Palm Beach(Loxahatchee). We should get together some time. Not too many monitor keepers around here. Except for some weirdo a bit north from me that calls himself Jody.

Hahahaha!! Yeah the weirdo Jody! j/k, he's a good guy from what I know of him. If you ask me, we're all a little weird to be keeping giant, carnivorous lizards in our homes! I'll shoot you an email. Billy
