Kinda want a crested

Kati33 Dec 11, 2003 09:33 PM

So, right now my herp collection includes a male leopard gecko, a male AFT, and a female rosy boa. Well, the rosy just moved from a 10gal to a 20L and so I have an empty 10-gallon tank. Can't have that now can we! The guy who owns a local pet shop (the only decent one in town) spoke in one of my college classes and brought along a sweet little crested girl. I fell in love instantly! I went into the store today, and they don't have that particular girl, but they had another female that was red? or something and a male that was a gorgeous brown with bright orange markings. I talked to the guy that works there for quite awhile and it sounds like they make really great pets. They were both really easy to handle and are soooo soft.

So basically, does anyone have a favorite link/caresheet to point me to for more info? They were marked at $100 each, so I may wait until after Christmas and buy it with the money I get then ("sorry mom, no present for ya, I got a new gecko" won't go over well Christmas morning!). Any tips from current owners will also be great. Thanks!

Kati

I think that a basic care sheet that works can be found on "crestedgecko.com" if I remember correctly. It should get you started.

Not much to remember - temps 70-80. Some hunidity - (I mist them once a day) - dish of water - buy some "Crested Gecko Diet" for food (or crickets) - climbing branches, some leaves for them to hide in, and you're good to go.

Oh yeah - put a screen top on your 10 gallon. they climb.

Have at it!!! They are very fun.

Your collections sounds like a junior version of mine. LOL, and you have all of my favorite animals from mine EXCEPT for the cresteds! You CAN NOT go wrong buying a crested! They are super easy to care for, easier than AFT, and leo's. I keep all of mine at room temp, spray daily, feed CGD from T REX, and check for eggs! They are a joy to keep!

That's only my herps. I also have a lovebird, a rat (but I'm getting two more soon, my poor girl just lost her littermate and is lonely), an epileptic lab/ACD cross and an AKC agility dog pembroke welsh corgi. Oh yeah, and then there's the husband, who puts up with all my animals. I'd have a lot more, but working at the zoo gives me my fill of tortoises, larger snakes, chinchillas, chickens, tigers, otters, etc! But yeah, my husband did seem to like the crested. Maybe a late Christmas present from him?
