BCC info needed....

labialpitstop Dec 12, 2003 01:02 AM

I have the chance to get a 2yr, 7' male BCC for a really great price. It comes with everything that it needs (enclosure, heat elements etc.....) so I am really thinking about it. I have been doing a lot of reading/research, here is my question: What do I need to know that is not in all of the books out there. Reading about snakes is different then keeping them. Anything that I should know about that is not common knolege before I get this guy? Thanks everybody!!

diet. I would speculate that most BCC (or atleast the ones I've seen) oinly reach about 4' in that ammount of time. Are you sure it's BCC ?

Got Bats?

seriously... that is enourmous for a 2 year old BCC, even BCI that is dangerously large for being that young. Especially if its a male. CE is right, if its that big you need to curb your feeding pattern. i have 3ft males that are 2 yrs old and i recently got them and find them a bit fat... so ive got them on a diet.
where did you accquire the animal?
whats your feeding schedule?
are you sure its only 2?
are you sure its really 7ft?
are you positive its a male? (females get beigger faster but not that big that fast)

Well, here is the deal. This guy came into work (I work in a pet store)and asked me to get a rat for him. I always ask what the rat/mouse is for. He said that it was a "red tail". I know that this does not mean much considering the amound of species that are grouped under the "red tail" name. I asked him if it was a BCI or a BCC or something else and he just stared at me. After a minute he said that BCC sounded familiar.

As for the snake, I have not seen it. I plan on going to see it later this week. I will have more info then. I agree, 7' is pretty big for a male of 2 yrs. From what I have heard, they usualy don't grow that big that fast but judging from the fact that he does not know what type of boa it is, the likelyhood of him knowing the age is kind of slim. I plan on giving it a good once over.

As for the feeding goes; I asked him how much/often he is feeding and he said one large rat every week. He got a pretty big rat but if this thing is 7' long, it would be able to handle it. I am not sure if he is just throwing them into the cage or what.

As it turns out, I will not be able to do it right now. This is to bad but I plan on having a BCC or BCI sometime in the future. What really caought me was the price: $225.00 for the snake and the set-up, heating elements and all! From what he described to me, I would pay that just for the cage!

Anyway, I told a freind of mine about it and she is interested in it so I am going to go over there and take a few pics for her. I will post them up so that you will be able to see what this guy is talking about, I am pretty curious! Thanks for your input.

You said that yours was 2yrs old and 3'? What is their growth rate? I have heard/read so many different things that it is tough to get a good idea of what the reality of it is. Well, that's all I can think of right now, when I get the pics I will post them up in the boa forum. Thanks again!!
