i'm thinking about getting a Boaphile 36x24x18 and am wondering if I can house a single JCP or IJ for life? If so, can I go with either a male or female or just male (assuming there is a size difference)?

Sounds good to me. And generally males do stay smaller than females so that might be the way to go. Another good cage to consider is the Animal Plastics T5 -- 36w x 24h x 24d. The 24" height will give you nice room for perches (even simple thick branches mounted horizontally across the cage) and you can use a radiant heat panel.

Never heard of Animal Plastics. Where can I find them on the web?

I was also considering Animal Plastics for my JCP when he becomes a yearling. The link can be found here.

Just be sure to accommodate your carpet python with a smaller enclosure(rubbermaids are good for this) until a year or so of age. I don't know if you had found it already but a good caresheet can be found online. Good luck with your future JCP.
