Fun with Codominants

morphkingreptile Jun 02, 2003 10:25 PM

We had a pleasant surprise this morning this 1400 gram female
Pastel Jungle (Graziani Line) was found ovulating.
She was bred to a Mojave,Spider Ball and a Pastel!
Who's the Daddy? nobody knows, but the mojave did the lions share of the breeding.

Just out of curiosity, why would you do that?

Of course I don't have any of those.

Multiple paternity clutches have been seen before (Ralph Davis). Maybe they'll get lucky and get a super pastel, a pastel mojave, and a pastel spider (NERD's Bumble Bee Spider) in the same clutch. Odds are long on that from a small girl but I would consider it fun to see what comes out. The paternity of any spiders or mojaves will be obvious and it probably isn't that important to know on any normals or pastels.

I guess we don't actually know yet if Mojave and Spider are Co-Dominant or Completely Dominant. It doesn't really matter for this breeding since those genes are only on one side but I suppose it isn't technically correct to refer to either as co-dominant yet.

Good Question there were two reasons one, when using young males its best to cover your bets the more breeding the more chances one has of viable offspring and second you can't lose whatever comes out since they are Codominate they will Rock the chances of getting something cool like a Pastel Mojave would be one in four but with mixing all the genes it just depends on which male got there at the right time. If we hadn't tried this there would be no chance of multiple parentage and less chance of viable offspring.
