I have never personally heard or heard of (or read of) any monitor making any vocalizations other than hissing. Are you sure it's NOT a baby crocodilian?
If this is for real then you should definitely take your lizard to a qualified herp vet and have it checked for RI. Billy

Long time no talk too!! YES, there are some very valid report and a long paper on V. salvator vocalization, and a few scarce reports on V. niloticus too - You're not hearing things!
