Fun 10 gallon setups?

PEACHES123 Dec 12, 2003 11:53 AM

Hi...my leo is currently in a 10 gallon and with the 2 hides, water bowl, mealie dish, and calcium dish, his poor little tank has no room for decoration. I have a hammock up but thats about it. It looks so boring for my leo. Anyone have pics of their 10 gallon or ideas to make it a little more fun ?

Hey, I think it's alright if you get rid of the calcium dish and just combine the calcium with the mealies...right, people? For a little extra room, anyway.
Also, mine seem to enjoy the moss I have in there...gives them something to climb on and dig underneath. If you're willing to spend the extra money, maybe you could upgrade to a 20 gal, if you have the room for it!

Thats a really good idea. Combining calcium with food dish. That way you dont even have to dust feeders. And half the time, my gecko misses the mealworms and gets a big mouthful of calcium.

i do that... but i also have a calcium dish too! hehe~ and even though the mealies are in the dish of calcium... sometimes they aren't even dusted and just slip through... so i cover the top of my mealie dish, put a little bit of calcium or reptile vitamins in, cover the mealie dish with a container cover (the one that held in mealies at the pet store), and shake em up... then they're dusted for days and there's extra calcium in case my leo passes up the little calcium dish. i also put a little bit of trex sandfire cricket gutload in there so the mealies munch at those instead of eating each other or dying off hehe

but similar to peachez, i have no room in my tank for decorations what-so-ever. but that's the reason i'll be upgrading to a bigger tank this coming summer. i'll also be getting those cresteds and gargoyles i've been wanting!!

That's a good idea...I should've gotten a deeper food bowl for my new leos...those damned mealies keep getting out of there. I love the hammock idea as well...my anoles loved that thing, and I bet it would benefit the leos as well! I have to do some shopping...

I would always keep an extra calcium dish in there just for the benefit of the leopard gecko. I also dust the crickets or mealies with a multiviatmin supplement. I would recommend keeping the dish in there and just feeding the leo without a dish by dropping a few infront of him and he should gobble them up if he is hungry. Also I am not so sure about the moss idea, moss in a leopard gecko tank has been consumed by them in some situations and this causes impaction. Impaction even with something as soft as moss can still be risky! Overall, I think that you may just want to get a bigger tank and more things for them to climb on or over on the ground of their tank. Leopard geckos hate being seen in the open so just try to make the ground as covered as possible for them to crawl around on! Good luck and I hope that our ideas have helped you!

yeah my food bowl is pretty deep - and it has this little branch that my leo LOVES to lie down on. if she's hangin on it and looks down - she sees all the wriggly little mealies and goes in for the kill i was thinking of the hammock, but i would like it to look a little more natural... so i skipped the idea i just can't wait til i get a bigger tank --- ohhh the possibilites..

You don't even need a whole dish for calcium. Just a little jar lid or even a film cap lid will do.
