how do I get my non-eater to RIP?

h0mersimps0n Dec 12, 2003 12:54 PM

I'm giving up on my non-eating motley. His is end-stage dying. I've attempted to force-feed him for the past 5 months, he has no swallow reflex (never has) and barely is able to get even force fed food into his gut. I've never seen a snake this skinny and terrible looking and after discovering he regurged his second force-feed in a row...

well, time to go.

I'm going to take a few pictures and post them for any of the major breeders to use as an example of what your snake should NOT look like. You are all welcome to use them, he is shriveled, weak, skinny, bulgy eyes, etc. A sad but good example of what people never ever want their snake to look like.

As of right now I'm thinking the fastest, most humaine way to finish him off is freeze him.

Thoughts?

A sharp fast blow to the head will stop all brain activity and that means no pain.

I suggest freezing it. Like you said it is humane and i have done it before. If it is really weak it wont take long and it wont feel much. A lot cleaner than a blow to the head and easier than user CO2 if you dont have access to it.

You could take it to a vet to humanely euthanize. Sure they may charge you a couple bucks, but it is one way to make sure it dies peacefully. Using a regular feezer to me, won't kill anything fast enought to prevent suffering. Unless you have dried ice on hand.

Brumate it. If it doesn't make it through, then it wasn't meant to survive. I do this with all my non feeders. Almost all(over 90%) make it through and start feeding a month or two after being cooled. It somehow creates a instinctual feeding response that some don't have after hatching.
