Licking lips?

FisherCham20 Dec 12, 2003 01:40 PM

I have noticed that Bender has been opening his mouth and doing what looks like licking his lips. I've checked over his mouth and there are no signs of any wounds or anything unusual. And he hasn't been eating much. Ate 5 med. crickets 2 days ago. Temp is near perfect so is humidity. He's drinking well also. Is this something I should be worried about? Thanks!

Nothing to be worried about as long as there is nothing around his/her mouth. Chameleons do that from time to time. Do his/her eyes move around a lot, what I mean is, does he/she look around alot? IF so that is a sign of a healthy chameleon. SOmetimes chameleons get fussy with their eating habits. Sometimes crickets are just not enough. Vary his/her diet (by that I mean give them greens, and fruits) They love fruits!!!

I hope that helps.

Thanks! Whew... Yes, he moves his eyes all around. Looks very well and happy. I ordered some silkworms that should come today. I'll try some fruits too. Thanks again!

I've never seen a fischeri eat vegetation, but probably no reason not to offer it. A suggestion. Put some chopped soft fruit in with the insects. He may get some on his tongue when shooting a bug and decide he likes it. Try bright colored things like orange, melon, berries. He may show no interest at all but you never know.
