Ackie monitor

stamps03 Dec 12, 2003 03:07 PM

looking to be a first time monitor owner & "Ackies" seem to be the monitor of choice for newbies. was planning on getting 2 of them since i have a empty 150 gallon Perfecto tank (72x18x28)that i will set up.

where is the best place to buy them? I see Pro Exotics & other online stores sell them. I also live only 2 hours from Hamburg, PA where I know that Reptile Expo is every 4 months or so. would venders there have them, or is that show mostly snakes?

like i said... very anxious to get 2 of these, just need some advice on how to go about getting them.

thanks in advance

I believe SHVar got his red ackie at Hamburg. I was there, and didn't see that many ackies there, but there were a relatively large amount of monitors there. If I remember correctly, there were two reds that were there, and they were over a year old, other than that, I dont remember seeing any. I am in the market for them too, and I just gotta wait until some eggs start hatching from the breeders. The post below from robyn said jan-feb.

SHVar would be able to help you out more. I was only there once. I am sure there are others also.

Hi

I have a pair of yellow ackies available. I am located in Seattle, WA and I can ship. They're about 3-4 months old and about 8-10 inches. Let me know if you'd be interested.

A rare red ackie or 2. The male I bought was a year old the other male they had was 2 years old (both active as squirrrels). And a lazy sleepy red that didnt look happy or active that time. One guy offered me a male and 2 females (little ones) for $100 a piece if I got all 3.
Reds are expensive. Mine was $375, he wanted $550 each but I got him down in price later on. Sedona picked us out, we just decided he was going with us that day.
