hamster hybrids?

Can two different kids of hamsters breed? I have a big golden hamster and some other kind. I'm not sure of the name. It has long hair, and bigger eyes, he's brown and white. He tries to mate with her and one time she let him. But, she doesn't seem to be pregnant, but she hasn't gone back into heat as far as i know. Should i expect a litter?

Far as I know, all breeds of hamsters are just done via selective breeding (like dog breeds) and can interbreed. I would suggest going to the exotics site (see link below) and asking your question there in the hamster forum.

If he is just longer coated he is just a 'variety' of the same 'Golden' or Syrian Hamster. And sure, they can breed. Hamsters have pretty defined heats and she may have just come in. Give her a couple weeks and you will know.
If he is a dwarf ham of some sort than that is a different species and not gonna work.
