You do know specs can't legally cross state lines anymore don't you? I am assuming you have already carefully looked at the difficulty of keeping crocodilians long term and are still looking for a "pet" caiman. If you have your heart set on a spec you might try your local herp society and see if they have any rescue animals avalible. In my opinion though a dwarf would be a better choice and shipping them has no red tape involved.

No I didn't know that, WOW when did that happen? That changes things. I do unserstand the space requirements of adult crocs. The spec is somewhat small. I have a friend that lives on an exotic animal farm close to me. They have several gators, and have had about a 4' spec for a while until it was sold. I luvd that croc. The specs are the raddest caiman in my opinion. They look bada**!! I will have to search elsewhere. The dwarfs are cool and I have had the chance to handle a few. They all seemed very flighty to me and have had very dark coloration. Any other small caiman you would suggest that have lighter coloring?
Thanks for the info!!

If I remember correctly it was early this year, might have been last year though. In my opinion there isn't a dimes worth of difference most of the time between a palp. and a spec. temperment when they are both LTC. Most LTC dwarfs are not any more flighty than a spec. If you want a lighter color caiman a "dimiond caiman" might fit the bill. They are a cross between a spec. and a yac. caimans and they are avalible in the kingsnake classifieds from time to time. I "think" they are legal to ship across state lines because they are a cross but don't hold me to that. Check it out. I don't have any personal experience with them but they are pretty and MOST will LIKELY max out around 4-5ft. but there are no promises. I like dwarfs better if you can't tell.

Thanks for the correction Bill. Looks like my memory is a little off.
Doesn't seem like three years ago.
